Lord Randolph's pictorial diary of the 2001 Bristol Renaissance Festival

What a fun show we have had! Sales were down slightly (as has been the entire year of the Bush) but we are so enjoying life!

Several years ago Jane and I realized we were always working and never getting to play so we resolved to take a day and do something fun. Well that lasted about two years and we fell into the work all the time rut, an easy thing when you live and work in the same space.

We are back to the resolve to enjoy the journey and not be too focused on the goal and this show was GREAT!

R, J and J took the tour of the Chicago River sponsored by the architectural society. I cannot recommend it enough. If you live in Chicago and have not gone you must make time for it. When your friends visit from out of town make sure they take it. It is the best way to experience the unique history of Chicago.

SO the next week R, J and J go to the Wisconsin Dells and take the deluxe triple tour of the DUCKS, and the upper and lower Dells on boat. It was a great day, I rode in the GUNNERS seat of the DUCK and at one point the driver let me take over the controls! I got to drive a DUCK that was built in 1941. It was totally cool. While we were on the upper Dells tour I decided it would be a great outing to rent a couple of pontoon boats and bring the crew for a picnic so the next week we did just that. We were able to bring 17 of the 20 people who make and sell our work while we are at Bristol and had a wonderful bonding day.

We loaded up three vehicles at 9AM and left site for the three hour drive. we had FM radios so were were chatting the whole way. Just past Madison there was an accident stopping traffic but we exitied and found an excelent alternative route. In the Town of Dells we picked up some alcohol and a couple of giant buckets of chicken to go with the stuff we already had and made it down to the boats in time to head out at 2pm for our 4 hour cruise.
the non smoking boat had loaded porely with all the cargo loaded in the front compartments so when all the people went to the front it tried to dive like a submarine at which time the anchor deployed causing the engine to hold the front under. On one was lost and the load got redistributed.
When we got to one onf the tiny beaches that can only be accessed by boat Gretchen followed a local up to a cliff and amazed everyone by jumping off!! Several others followed suit.

on the drive back we stopped un anounced at a Pizza HUt in Madison and we bought dinner for all
